Reposting in the correct category

"Zimmerman shot Martin in the chest. When police arrived Zimmerman admitted shooting Martin."

Just before the phrase: "Officers recovered..."

I've never understood the significance of those words being removed before the document was released to the public.

Redacted from the affidavit Empty BertDilbert's post in this Re:

From another board.

*********
Myself i agree with those who think the ambulance chasers want to own the subdivision via wrongful death suit against the homeowners' association.I just wonder....

If Zimmerman is found to have acted in self defense he's immune from civil liability.
But if they can spin this into an accident while struggling over a gun, then does he lose that protection? That'd explain removing the claim of who shot whom.

Does that infer that Crump is behind the redaction?

Well, the redacted sentences are the crux of the whole issue. That's the supposed crime. Redacting the "crime" seems like a huge deal to me.

The paragraphs are:

Zimmerman confronted Martin and a struggle ensued. Witnesses heard people arguing and what sounded like a struggle. During this time period witnesses heard numerous calls for help and some of these were recorded in 911 calls to police. Trayvon Martin's mother has reviewed the 911 calls and identified the voice crying for help as Trayvon Martin's voice.

[Redacted sentences] Officers recovered a gun from a holster inside Zimmerman's waistband. A fired casing that was recovered from the scene was determined to have been fired from the firearm.

The whole crux of the murder 2 charge has been removed from the document! And removed after the judge signed off on it. That IMHO is huge.

Notice also that they claim to have ballistics results. One would guess they had autopsy results as well--ballistics takes longer--which would definitely state where the gunshot wound was, etc. But they redacted that?

Does anyone know if they can redact information from a document that has already been filed with the court? It's not like they redacted information to protect identities before uploading to the internet, etc.

Redacted from the affidavit Empty Who redacted them...

Post  Howard Beale Sat Apr 28, 2012 3:59 pm

Who redacted the sentences and when did they do it? If the document has already been submitted to the court does that not mean that they were redacted BY the court, perhaps to meet the disclosure standards, which were set subsequent to the submission of the document?

I read that yesterday. We certainly seem to have a tame "fourth estate," don't we? And I agree, the comments were a waste of bandwidth, not to mention time.

Redacted from the affidavit Empty A question or 3

Simon, i am working from memory here but I have a question, on the day the affidavit was released I remember an announcement that a sentence was redacted. When I read the affidavit I did not see evidence of a redacted sentence in the body of the document... is this the sentence that should have been redacted originally? or is there another sentence? or am I missing the point?

Go to the KOS link above. It explains the whole thing better than I can. As to why? I have not a fookin clue.

Guess:
It was redacted for reporters. Maybe it was an attempt to channel the reporting. I dunno.
